Punching Press-Fit Holes
Have you been asked to make exact size or press fit holes by punching?
It is possible - and quite simple!
For example, if you want to produce a press fit hole in 3 mm steel to

2 tools are necessary for this:

1.) tool (first hit)
Punch Ø 11,4 mm (0,6 mm smaller than hole dimension)
Die Ø 12 mm (exact hole dimension)
Stripper Ø 13 mm
2.) tool (second stroke)
Punch Ø 12,027 mm (TICN-coated)
Die Ø 12,08 mm (ca. 0,05 mm play)
Stripper Ø 13 mm
With this procedure almost any press fit dimension is possible. Please keep in mind that the punch has to be coated for the second hit, or the wear would bee too big.
